Sri Lanka Calling is happy to announce that UK and Germany joined France and Netherlands in reviewing their travel advisories to Sri Lanka and that European Tour Operators have opened bookings for the winter season with renewed commitment.

First the French Tour Operators Association (CETO) and then The Netherlands, and now Germany and UK authorities have revised travel advisories to Sri Lanka. The earlier ‘advice against travelling to Sri Lanka if not essential’ has been deleted from the text of the German travel advisory.
The British travel advisory too has been reviewed and reissued with an amendment where it now states ‘we no longer advice against travel to the city of Anuradhupura’ paving way for tour operators to canvass and accept bookings for the upcoming winter season.

Around 100 Foreign runners have registered for the Marathon or for its ‘Fun Runs’ this year. A larger number of school children too are expected to participate, energizing the organizers in to making the event a truly memorable experience for participants and on lookers alike. The Sri Lanka Tourist Board has pledged to offer attractive prize monies of US $ 5000 each to the winners of the Men’s and Women’s Professional Marathon beginning from the 2008 event to make the ‘Colombo Marathon’ an attractive event for international participants, positioning it in the international calendar of Marathons. We are delighted with the news and congratulate Galle Fort Hotel for beating 25 entries from 10 countries to put Sri Lanka on the map and bagging the coveted UNESCO Award for ‘Outstanding Conservation Achievement’ - where the Hotel’s restoration was described by the award committee as “A carefully considered transformation of an abandoned historic residential compound into a stylish boutique hotel has evocatively captured the spirit of place of the colonial world heritage fortified town of Galle. The restoration has been carried out with sensitivity to the historic fabric and the surrounding urban context, retaining the buildings modest scale and street facade.” |

Sri Lanka Tourism is happy to be involved with the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects and the Arcasia Forum 14. Over 300 Architects from 17 member states of Japan, China, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Monglia, Nepal, Korea and Malaysia are in Colombo this week to attend the Arcasia Forum 14 and to join in the celebrations of their Sri Lankan counterparts 50th anniversary celebrations. |
